Sega is pulling Space Harrier off the archive shelves for a revival on 3DS.
That's according to a report out of Japan (viaTiny Cartridge), which reports that the 3DS-bound game will be a port of the arcade original with added support for the 3DS's widescreen profile and obligatory stereoscopic 3D.The report also claims that this will be the first of multiple classic 3DS remakes that Sega plans to release on the portable, as the home of Sonic seemingly seeks to pick up the '3D Classics' line that Nintendo appears to have abandoned.
There was no word on a release date.

Between the 3DS and the 3DS XL, Nintendo has sold nearly 6 million handhelds in the United States since the system's March 2011 debut. The company revealed the updated figure in an announcement for a new Super Mario 3D Land 3DS hardware bundle set to hit store shelves this Friday.
While the company didn't give updated information on the rest of the world, it did release figures through September 30 in its last quarterly financial report. Worldwide, Nintendo has sold 22.19 million 3DS systems (2.1 million of which were 3DS XL models). Japan has accounted for 7.94 million 3DS systems, the Americas have combined for 7.38 million, and the rest of the world was credited with buying the remaining 6.88 million.
Nintendo also expects 3DS sales to accelerate significantly through the holidays. The company is forecasting sales of 17.5 million 3DS systems for the fiscal year ending March 30, 2013. By the end of its fiscal first half, it had sold 5.06 million units, less than one third of that forecast.

Just because Nintendo is focusing its energy on the Wii U launch doesn't preclude a sweet deal or two in portable gaming. Starting November 23rd, the company is bundling Super Mario 3D Land with Flame Red 3DS models at the same $170 price as the handheld by itself; it even comes pre-loaded on memory to save some of the hassles of physical media. You can be sure the limited-run console is all about goosing Black Friday sales at a time when Nintendo really needs the boost, but we don't think too many mobile gamers will mind if it means entering 3DS ownership with one of the platform's better games in hand.

Sales of the PlayStation Vita have fallen to an all-time low in Japan, but that’s not Sony’s biggest concern this week.
The release of new title Animal Crossing: New Leaf – a very popular IP in Japan – saw 3DS hardware sales rocket, with 187,077 units being shifted last week.
Vita, by contrast, sold just 4,021 units. That means 3DS outsold Vita by a ratio of 47-to-1. It is also without a single title in the software Top 30 while 3DS accounts for 14 entries.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf, incidentally, shifted 721,786 copies in its debut week.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf will be released in the UK in 2013.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf has notched up an eye-watering 721,786 sales during its opening week. That number doesn't include digital downloads from the 3DS eShop. Early indications show this may account for up to 80,000 more.Famitsu's latest Japanese chart numbers (via NeoGAF) reveal a huge spike in 3DS hardware sales corresponding to Animal Crossing's launch. 168,662 3DS units were sold between 5th and 11th November, double that of the preceding week.Astonishingly, lifetime sales of the 3DS in Japan (now just over 8 million) look set to overtake lifetime sales of the PlayStation 3 (8.47 million) in the next few weeks.PlayStation Vita again sank to its lowest ebb, a week on from another lifetime low. Just 4263 bought one in Japan, down from 5368 the week before.Elsewhere in the chart Halo 4 launched with sales of 31,467 - no mean feat for an Xbox 360 exclusive in Japan.Western fans of Animal Crossing must wait until next year for their copy. New Leaf is currently labelled with a vague "first half of 2013" launch date in Europe.

Square Enix has released the first in-game screenshots of Dragon Quest 7 on 3DS.
The direct-feed screens, surfaced on Japanese site 4Gamers (thanks NeoGAF), showing villages, dungeons and a glimpse at the game's traditional battle system.Square Enix confirmed last month that the PSone classic was getting remade and enhanced for 3DS, due for release in Japan on February 7.
ArtePiazza, who has previously worked on DS remakes of classic DQ games, is handling development on the 3DS title, renamed Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden (according to reported translations).
Square is yet to detail release plans outside of Japan, but with previous remakes getting international releases, its a safe bet to assume this won't stay Japan-only for long.

WayForward's half-genie mascot Shantae returns in a new downloadable 3DS game, revealed in the penultimate issue of Nintendo Power. Shantae and the Pirate's Curse has the now fully human Shantae teaming up with the pirate Risky Boots, who has just the best name, to find the 30 Tinkerbats who have stolen Shantae's genie powers.
As a result of her de-geniefication, Shantae relies on "Pirate Gear" she finds in labyrinths, instead of dance powers, to gain new abilities and access new locales. The Bone Daggers, for example, can be thrown into walls to make footholds.
You can see a few screens on Nintendo Power's preview page, but to see more you should consider buying the actual magazine.
